ATHENS

The ever charming ancient city of not just Greece but probably of all of Europe. Greece has so much history embedded in its cities that you can’t help but wonder how life was in those times. When you arrive at the airport, save your money and take the shuttle bus to the centre of Athens. The bus will stop at the Syntagma Square. This will allow you to see the outskirts of Athens. We took the shuttle bus, it’s pocket friendly, fast and reliable. We stayed at a hotel downtown called Centrotel.
Athens: About Us

Start your day off early by visiting the Acropolis where you will find whatever is remaining of the Parthenon. It’s a lot of walking and an uphill climb, wear comfortable shoes and bring lots of water! At the base of the Acropolis, theres tons of restaurants to have lunch or a snack and get some shopping done. Make sure you take a stroll through the Plaka, and old charming neighbourhood thats at the base of the Acropolis, lined with restaurants and shops. The most heavily populated area by tourists is called the Monastiraki, a small flea market neighbourhood, just beside the Plaka. Here you can get some beautiful views of Athens with the Acropolis in the background, lit bright at night. There’s a rooftop bar nearby where you can sip on a cocktail and enjoy the view and summer breeze.

Two days is enough for Athens because the islands are so spectacular. For our second day in Athens, we were on a hunt for the first ever olympic stadium, called Panathenaic Stadium. If you’re big on sports then you have to to make the trek to visit this place. There is an entrance fee to get in, once inside you can try to find where the King and Queen once sat. The stadium is easy to get to using the public transportation. Across the street from the stadium is a beautiful park called National Gardens. Go for a stroll before heading back to the city centre. Spend your last night getting lost in the cobble stoned narrow streets in Plaka. You can get your souvenirs here, there are tons of shops! Leave some extra days for Greece to visit some of the islands. We only had time to go to Santorini, but if we had time, we would definitely be island hopping in the Mediterranean.
