CHIANG MAI
The beautiful north of Thailand has its own charm and beauty compared to the rest of the country. The pace is slower which makes it feel very peaceful. It offers beautiful scenery, from temples and hill tribes to jungles and waterfalls.
We checked in at the Buri Gallery House. It’s a cute boutique hotel with beautiful traditional interior design. The location of this hotel was perfect. From the hotel, you can basically walk to the Old City, Thapei Gate, Night Market and the Ping River as they are all in the same direction.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants on that street on the way to the night market. Travelling through Thailand, we came across many markets, however this one in Chiang Mai was by far the biggest. It’s definitely worth a stroll and maybe make some purchases! There are plenty of things to do in Chiang Mai if you’ve got the time. You can take cooking classes, enjoy thai massages, go on treks to the hilltribe villages, spend a day with the elephants at the elephant sanctuary and visit Tiger Kingdom, if that's your thing. We went to see some of the elephants and did a short hike through some villages where you saw farmers working in their cascading ride paddy fields. Post hike, we went on a water rafting adventure on a river. If you’re feeling a bit more gutsy, rent a scooter and ride along the winding roads of Chiang Mai. It’s probably the best place to rent a scooter as it’s a quieter place with less traffic than most of the other popular cities.Â
If you are thinking of having a couple of relaxing days in Thailand other than the beaches then visiting the north is a must. You can take more days to explore Chiang Mai or explore other places like Chiang Rai and the old capital, Sukhothai.
