FRANKFURT
Frankfurt is quiet and loud, peaceful and busy, old and new. You will find yourself getting lost in historical buildings at times only to find yourself amongst the most modern skyscrapers. Our trip to Frankfurt was due to a layover, which is the case with most travellers as it is Germany’s largest aviation hub and one of the busiest airports in Europe. We dedicated three days in Frankfurt and that was plenty of time. We arrived in Frankfurt mid day and checked into Hotel Am Berg.
Hotel Am Berg is a small romantic villa built in 1898 that’s away from the main streets but close enough to walk to the main attractions. It is situated in a lovely neighbourhood that feels like home.
Frankfurt: Past Events

There are two main districts where you can stay in Frankfurt. Sachsenhausen is a small area with an old town charm – cobble stone streets filled with small pubs and shops. This area is completely a ghost town from Monday to Friday. Only on the weekends is when this place comes alive with crowds of people, patios spilling onto the streets and live music. Most of the bars in this area are small and old, inviting you in with its thick smoke filled air – which only adds to its charming element. Since this area is known for its apple wine, what better place to try some. Apfelwein, as the Germans call it, is completely pure and natural, containing 9-10% alcohol. While you are bar hopping in this area, make sure to walk around the streets outside of the pedestrian sidewalks and explore as it is truly a beautiful charming little spot.  If you’re in Frankfurt during the week, visit the main station area for nightlife and everything else in between. This area hosts majority of hotels and hostels and is considered much busier and in the central of everything. There is a free walking tour near the main train station on Kaiserstreet 69, in front of the jewellery store everyday. This will give you a chance to walk around in town while learning some history of Frankfurt.

The Romerberg is a beautiful square with historic half timbered houses which now has been transformed into shops and restaurants. The square has been reconstructed after World War II to give us a glimpse of how beautiful it once was. There is one building around the Romerberg that has not been destroyed from the World Wars and it still stands in its original form until today. How it escaped the attacks from the wars still remains a mystery. After walking around and exploring the Romerberg, head over to Condit Couture, a beautiful dessert shop filled with good looking goodies.

Frankfurt: About

Frankfurt: Welcome

Whether you stay in Sachsenhausen or in the area close to the train station, the more popular attractions like the Romerberg and Zeil street are all walking distance from both neighbourhoods. Take a walk by the river and cross the bridge to go to the Romerberg, then to the Zeil shopping promenade. On your walk, there will a numerous restaurants along the way. Do step into a place called The Worscht Company on Schwanthalerstr. 38. It’s a small joint serving sausages and fries with curry sauce that’s extra delicious.
