SIEM REAP

This is where everybody comes to see the majestic, most beautiful Angkor Wat.

We stayed at The Villa Siem Reap, nestled in a quiet street but close enough to walk to the famous Pub Street- known for its bars, nightlife and mostly where all the backpackers are.

On your first day in Siem Reap, I’d suggest you take the day to visit the villages and lakes outside of the city. A boat ride on Tonle Sap Lake will allow you to see the villages and visit the remote areas of Siem Reap. On our way to the lake, we passed by some small villages and stopped at one of the restaurants to have a quick bite to eat. Restaurants consisted of rugs and hammocks by the lake on the dock. Some tours for the villages will ask you to help out the families by donating money or buying food. We saw so many children that instead we had given out toys to them that we purchased from the floating toy store on the lake. The joy on their faces were priceless!

If you want to see Angkor Wat in all its glory, wake up at 4:00 am and ask your tuk tuk driver to take you there for sunrise. The easiest way to book a ride to the temple at that time is to arrange it through your hotel for a tuk tuk. Some people ride bikes, but in the hot weather you may not make it there. We made it to Angkor Wat in time for sunrise and it is just breathtaking. There are several other temples you can scope out in the area, such as the Baton Temple and Ta Prohm which is the famous Tomb Raider temple. This will take you the whole day, so take your time and enjoy this masterpiece. We spent an entire day there and returned to Siem Reap at night. Spend the night on Pub Street, in particular, visit the bar called Angkor Wat? Bar fir fun filled night.
